My Getaway to Ramada Resort and Spa

Although this year is off to a rocky start, I’m so grateful to have had ended last year with at least one getaway under my belt. It’s quite a shock that I managed to make it through the entire year without going anywhere but the travel itch was starting to get real near the end. Luckily for me, I was able to take a short trip just an hour away from Toronto to finally have the getaway that I’d be longing for. Though it was only for one night, just the fact that I got to spend a night anywhere out of town was a win for me.

Back in December, I was lucky enough to stay at Ramada Jacksons Point Resort and Spa in Sutton, Ontario. This was when the weather was just getting chilly so it brought back memories from previous years when I’d go on spa trips right before New Years. I hadn’t had any type of spa treatment all year either so this was just what the doctor ordered. For a year like 2020, I’m sure everyone needed (and deserved) at least one spa experience before it ended. Here’s how mine went.

When I first arrived to Ramada Resort, I was welcomed to a stunning view of Lake Simcoe bordering the entire resort. We immediately spotted the town’s lighthouse located a short distance away from us when standing on the dock. It was apparently Sutton’s signature landmark and a really cute one at that. If it weren’t so cold that day I would’ve stayed awhile longer to enjoy the view but then I remembered we’d still be able to take in the calming views from the comfort of our own rooms afterwards. It was going to be a cozy night spent in quiet relaxation as we went to check into our lakeview room that Saturday evening.

I must have said this a million times by now but hands down the best part of any hotel stay is always the bed. I requested the king room for my one-night getaway and it did not disappoint. We got the first room facing the lake at the very front of one of their two-storey buildings. There weren’t many people staying in our building during the time we visited so it fortunately ended up being a pretty peaceful stay. I slept like a dream that night but it was the feeling of waking up in a different town that I’ll remember most. I woke up feeling refreshed and ready to indulge in my 45-min relaxation massage later that day.

When I say we got the lakeview room, these were the killer views that came with it. Although our room only came with two small windows, it was literally situated right over the lake when we stepped outside of our second floor king room. This was definitely one of the highlights as I live for getting the best view whenever going on a getaway. And since no one seemed to be staying on the second floor with us, it felt like our very own private balcony. For anyone looking to stay, I’d recommend requesting a lakeview room for yourselves. Just the memory of waking up to this picturesque view on a day when the sun was shining bright is still engrained in my memory.

After requesting a late check out that Sunday, we grabbed lunch at the Lakeview Restaurant & Bar located at their main check-in building. Since we were the only ones in the restaurant at the time, we easily got the window seat to enjoy more of those scenic views of Lake Simcoe. The food here was also surprisingly good. I say that because usually hotel restaurants aren’t always the best but my club sandwich was delicious. You can also do room service from breakfast to dinner but if you can, you should try doing at least one dine-in. I always like dining in to get the full restaurant experience and luckily for us, that was still an option during the time we visited.

We visited the Ramada Resort and Spa during Christmas season so there were a few events going on. Some of them included a Christmas market with various local vendors, a Christmas tree market and even an on-site Santa Claus to grab pictures with. Although the market only consisted of a few vendors, it was a nice way to support small businesses and keep the Christmas spirit alive. We unfortunately didn’t get any pictures with Santa during our visit though; he left a bit earlier than expected while we were busy roaming the premises.

If I were going to name something as a notable highlight of our time here, it would be the walk towards our room at the end of this pathway (pictured above). The beautiful view as we neared closer reminded me how much I’ve missed trips out in nature with nothing but fresh air surrounding us. For such a hectic year, a getaway out in nature was the perfect way to keep my sanity in tact before saying farewell to 2020.

One minor hiccup during my time at Ramada was that I’d originally booked the wrong date for our massage treatments. I’d booked it for the day after by accident but no biggie as the staff quickly accommodated us by arranging last minute massages. They even gave us access back into our rooms as we waited for our appointments. The short wait was worth it though as I got one of the best massages I’ve had in awhile. The relaxation massage was exactly what it sounded like. I ended up falling asleep during the treatment because of how relaxing it was; I could even feel all the tension completely leave my body by the end of it.

After the 45-min treatment, we enjoyed some more spa time at their indoor heated pool and sauna. We were able to reserve the entire facilities to ourselves by the hour, which meant no one would be sharing the space with us. Booking was made easy at the front desk as the staff were very helpful to make sure we could gain access right after our massages. I spent most of my time in the dry sauna just enjoying the tranquility of the space without any interruptions. I’d suggest coming during the day – instead of nighttime like we did – as the pool area would’ve looked even prettier with some natural light streaming through.

We all know I’m a sucker for an adventure especially when it comes to seeing new places whether near or far. Since COVID has really made it difficult to travel for most of last year, visiting the Ramada Resort and Spa was the perfect alternative to having a getaway that didn’t require traveling too far outside of the city. Located just an hour north of Toronto, Ramada is a quiet resort conveniently situated right on Lake Simcoe with a short walk to the main strip in Sutton for those small town vibes.

For anyone looking to do a short getaway when it’s safe to do so, you can use code Book with Michelle for 10% off when booking over the phone with Ramada Resort and Spa. The rooms are affordably priced and the staff are super accommodating. And of course, the spa experience was one of the best parts. I didn’t know how stressed I really felt until I got to close my eyes for a bit and be pampered to my most relaxed state. It was just what I needed to end the year off right. Why not try a local travel destination for a little bit of pampering and for your next winter escape?

  1. This place looks amazing. I really love the pool and view from your room. What else did you get to do around there? It must have been very peaceful to get out of the busy life of Toronto. I am looking forward to going there when it’s warm, thank you.

    1. The view was definitely the best part. I’m still thinking about how nice it was to wake up right next to the lake – even if just for a short while. The resort is located in the small town of Sutton. We went exploring a bit to neighbouring towns, which was really nice. Definitely a nice change from the busy city life once in a while 🙂
