5 Ways to Look Cute on a Virtual Date

Let’s be honest – with the lockdown making dating a tad more difficult nowadays, everyone’s turned to online dating to find that much-needed human connection. Myself included. I finally jumped on the Hinge train last summer and not gonna lie, it was a lot more fun than I expected. Just the ability to actually go out and meet new people again was pretty exciting and though some didn’t turn out so great – at least I got a good story to tell my single girlfriends later on.

Fast forward to present day, with the second wave making it impossible to even meet up with strangers anymore, we have to go with plan b. Argo, the rise of virtual dates and basically virtual everything in the recent months has become the new norm. Though I have yet to go on a virtual date, I did end up trying out a virtual happy hour for singles recently. I probably wouldn’t do it again as it felt more like a group hang more than anything but I did learn a thing or two on how to look your best on one of these virtual rendezvous. Read on for five ways you can look cute on a virtual date.

1. Make those lashes sky high.

If you’re going to try out a virtual date, the first thing anyone will notice about you is probably your eyes. With that in mind, whether you wear falsies, super volumizing mascara or just curl your lashes to sky-high lengths, don’t skimp out. They say the eyes are the windows to your soul so you might as well make them stand out as much as possible. Try not to go heavy on the eyeliner on this one and instead, just focus on the lashes. Nice big lashes open up your eyes dramatically to make you look feminine and sexy. I personally love using Benefit Roller Lash for that super curled look. Then finishing them off with my trusty lash curler, they might as well look like falsies. Make that memorable first impression by drawing all the attention to your eyes.

2. Wear statement earrings.

Statement jewellery is a must if you want to look cute on a virtual date. I wouldn’t suggest decking yourself out in crazy amounts of accessories – as that might be too excessive – but a nice pair of earrings that actually stand out from your face would be the perfect way to show off your style. There’s something about big statement earrings that make you look oh so glam so don’t be shy to put on those gold hoops you’ve been dying to wear. I’d also go with a gold finish over silver as it’s flashier and during a virtual meetup, you definitely need to adopt the go big or go home mentality. I recently got these gold-filled twisted hoops from Be Honeyd Jewelry and I noticed how much better they stand out in photos compared any other earrings I own. The bolder the better I say.

3. Wear something that makes you feel confident.

This one goes without saying but when you feel your most confident, you will be your most authentic self. With a virtual date, it can be nerve-racking not knowing what to expect but wearing an outfit that makes you feel good will always bring out the best in you. The most important thing is to just be yourself and you can’t do that if you’re constantly worrying if you look good in that top you’re wearing the whole time. Therefore, choose something that’s comfortable on you; super flattering so it shows off your best attributes and gives you that extra boost of confidence just by putting it on.

For me, I love wearing v-neck long sleeves or cardigans because it shows off my clavicle. Don’t overdress for a virtual hang either but instead, take out that favourite piece of clothing that makes you feel the most you. Also, a little tip: try not to wear sweats. Even if they won’t be able to see your full body, it always feels better to dress like you’re on an actual date. Therefore, put on a pair of your nicest jeans if you want to feel at your best. Presentation is everything.

4. Rock your favourite lipstick.

I personally love wearing lipstick every time I go out so it would be a definite must for a date as well. That splash of colour on your lips always completes your makeup look by giving your complexion that extra flush. I always feel very bare without any colour on my lips so rocking my favourite lipstick always makes me feel that much more confident. Your lips will also be on full display during a virtual date so do them up Kylie Jenner style if you must. There’s nothing sexier than full lips and nothing that quite oozes femme fatale quite like a flawless pout. I’ve been wearing Fenty Beauty’s Stunna lip paint in Uncuffed for years now and the fact that it stays on through almost anything gives me one less thing to worry about during a date.

5. Make those locks as luscious as you are.

Last but not least, good hair don’t care. When they say hair is everything to a woman, they weren’t wrong. A good hair day is vital to how our entire day will turn out. There’s nothing worse than having flat or frizzy hair when you’re first meeting someone that it can actually kill your confidence levels. If you want to make sure that doesn’t happen on your virtual date, try to wash your hair the day before or at least have some volumizing dry shampoo stocked up to take care of greasy locks on the day of. As well, treat your hair with nourishing hair oil to manage frizz and damaged locks so that when you turn that video on, your locks are looking full, luscious and shiny. We want them to see the goddess that you are when you join that Zoom call.

I hope you enjoyed these tips on how to look cute on a virtual date. We never get a second chance to make a first impression so I always say look your best in every situation. Even if there’s no second date, at least you left them looking fine AH. Dating is all about trial and error so even if you don’t get it right the first time, you learn what works for you and what doesn’t for the next one.

One thing that is guaranteed to be a surefire way to make a good impression is to just relax, have fun and smile – a lot! Okay maybe not a lot but enough to set a positive mood from the get-go. Keep in mind they’re probably doing this for the first time as well so it might be a fun experience trying it together. Here’s to perfecting an effortless virtual date attire and the new age of dating in 2021.
