Sharing My Favourite Lip Looks for Spring and Summer

The weather’s heating up and with that, so are the lip trends of the season. I’ve previously mentioned my love for lipstick in earlier posts and because I feel that no outfit is complete without the perfect shade of lipstick, I’ve decided to spill some of my lip secrets for getting that perfect pout. Naturally, for spring and summer, I find that my favourite lip looks definitely get more vibrant as the days get hotter. With the return of the pretty florals everywhere, there’s no way I can leave home without a pop of colour to my wardrobe.

For this look, I’m wearing two lip products. I applied Urban Decay’s Comfort Matte lipstick in Backtalk on and finished the look by lining my lips in Kylie Cosmetics lipliner in Posie K. Something weird that I do is that I always line my lips after applying the lipstick instead of vice versa. I find that doing it in reverse helps to create a fuller pout. I had originally purchased this lipliner with the matching liquid lipstick but found the colour a bit too dark for my complexion. I’ve continued to pair the lip liner with other lighter lipsticks as well. The outcome? A dynamic colour with multi-dimensional tones.  I love this subtle rosy blush colour on my lips – it’s my go-to lip look for an everyday au natural look. The best part is that it’s in a matte finish so it doesn’t have the stickiness of a glossy lipstick – almost like I’m wearing nothing at all 😉

Here, I’m wearing another Urban Decay Comfort Matte lipstick but in Menace. I find that my lips dry out easily so to keep them hydrated while wearing matte finish lip looks, I always apply lip balm beforehand. My favourite lip balm is EOS – I’ve been using them for years and I find they do just the trick for dry lips. Applying lip balm before your lipstick is also another trick I use to help ease the application process. Sometimes I find it hard to apply a matte lipstick perfectly – no matter how creamy the texture is. The lip balm helps to smooth out your lips prior to lipstick application, evening out the dry texture. I love this bold colour whenever I’m going out – it’s in a vibrant shade of fuschia that makes my lips really pop. I know I’ll be having a lot of fun wearing this bright shade of candy pink these upcoming summer days.

Out of all the lipsticks, this cool mauve is the one I wear the most. It’s also the lip look you see in most of my blog posts – it’s Tarte Color Splash Lipstick in Cruisin’. I’ve been wearing this lip colour all through winter and spring so you can bet I’ll be rocking it for summer as well. What I love the most about this lipstick is that not only does it goes on silky smooth, it’s also hydrating for the lips. It has an ultra-creamy texture that lets me skip the initial lip balm routine that I usually do for matte lipsticks. Usually, when I wear this, there will be some excess in colour (due to the moisture-rich formula) that I easily blot off with tissue. The rich colour is also very versatile, making it easy to be worn from daytime to night. It’s not as vibrant as the previous look but still stands out enough to make a statement, which is why it’s one of my favourite everyday lip looks.

Lastly, hands down, this is my favourite lip look out of all of them. Here, I’m wearing Motives Liquid Matte lipstick in Dragon Fruit. This is the only liquid lipstick that I’ve been wearing lately and I absolutely love it. Since the warmer weather, I have found myself wearing this colour non-stop whenever I go out. It’s in a highly pigmented neon pink colour with a purplish hue that becomes more apparent depending on the light. It’s definitely a nighttime lipstick that plays up any outfit and gives a perfect creamy matte finish to my look. I love the easy application of a liquid lipstick – the applicator brush definitely helps in making more precise strokes. What’s even better is that the colour lasts for hours; I don’t have to worry about it coming off throughout the night like other lipsticks. The intense pink definitely gives a pop of colour that transforms any look into a daring one.
