That One Time I Decided to Go Snowboarding

If there’s one thing I love more than anything, it’s a good road trip. I couldn’t think of a better way to end this winter than the last minute decision to drive up to Mont Tremblant for a day of snowboarding. Since we only had a weekend to spend there, a group us drove all night just in time to catch the morning sunrise over the hills. Aside from the fact that I was exhausted by the time we arrived, it was well worth it. Losing one night’s rest to witness the resort at its quietest hour was a real treat. Just from first sight, I could already tell why Mont Tremblant is one of Canada’s best ski resorts.

Initially, I had planned to spend my time in Tremblant at Scandinave Spa for a day of relaxation and me-time while everyone else went snowboarding. Well, that didn’t end up happening. As soon as we arrived, I got convinced by my very persuasive friend to trade in my spa day for a day on the slopes. I’m not going to lie, I am the furthest thing from athletic and having been skiing twice in my life, I have never wanted to try snowboarding. Well, my curiosity eventually got the best of me. Using my you-only-live-once mentality, I gave in and said why the hell not.

After grabbing breakfast at our hotel and renting all necessary gear (snow pants and all), we took a shuttle to Mont Tremblant Village to start our day. I was the only one of the group who got to explore a bit of the village  – everyone else was busy snowboarding the entire time. It was nice to finally walk down this familiar strip of shops that I had seen numerous times on Instagram. The many colours of the buildings added to the overall charm of Mont Tremblant. Safe to say, probably my favourite part of visiting ski resorts is walking around the village and getting that small town cottage-life feel.

The majority of my day was spent snowboarding (aka falling on my butt a million times). All of us stayed on the bunny hill for a good three hours practicing on our boards. My boyfriend was my snowboarding instructor for the day and when they told me it was going to be easier than skiing – they lied. If anything, I found snowboarding even harder. Every time I would get back up from falling, I would only stay balanced for a short while before falling down again – it was exhausting. Truthfully, I wanted to give up so many times after being so tired of falling over. But somehow, I always found myself going back up the hill to try again. I never made it down smoothly but at least I can say I have tried it once in my life.

After my training session on the bunny slope, I decided that was enough snowboarding for me. Seeing how massive Mont Tremblant was, there was no way I was going to snowboard all the way down from the top. However, I found out afterward that you could actually come back down on the gondola instead of snowboarding. I would’ve loved to go up to the highest peak just to see the breathtaking panoramic views. Luckily for me, my friends were able to snap some shots from the top of the mountain. It was a definite must-see even through the fog; you could see into the distance for miles. That’s something I’ll definitely have to come back for. For now, I’ll just be sticking to my spa days and enjoying the apres-ski.

  1. Love it! You are so courageous – I have never been snowboarding. What are the hardest/most difficult part of it? Does that mean that you’ll go back to skiing? Haha, you look like you’re having loads of fun 🙂

    1. Thanks! Safe to say, I’ll probably never do either again haha. It was really difficult to control the direction of my board – I found myself going straight down so many times!
