How to Make Workout Chic Happen

Working out is one way to spend your quarantine but how about just channeling workout chic? I’ve been gravitating towards my cropped tanks, bralettes and biker shorts as of late. Not only do I feel like I’m actually staying active (even if I’m not) but I love how workout attire can double as an everyday outfit. Even better when you upgrade the workout look with some killer accessories making it the new quarantine chic. Here’s how to take your outfit from gym-ready to going out ready within seconds.

Pictured above, I’m wearing a loose-fitting crop top and biker shorts combo with some – in the words of Chriselle Lim – gold bold jewelry. The accessories really elevate the outfit that would otherwise be a simple workout look. I also love the material of these biker shorts in particular. They’re made with a smooth and shiny spandex material that gives the biker shorts that edgy “wet look” that’s oh so popular nowadays. The loose fit of the waffle-knit tank top gives this outfit a more casual loungewear feel than just your regular workout look. I’ve come to realize a good pair of biker shorts can pretty much go with any outfit and make it workout chic. They’re super flattering and hugs your body in all the right places. You can feel like you just worked out even if you didn’t.

Switch up the outfit with a cute cropped sweatshirt and you’re ready to go out (to the supermarket that is). You know I love a good cozy sweater and now that the warmer weather is rolling in, styling it with some chic biker shorts makes this outfit very going out appropriate. Likewise, the sweatshirt works best with the shorts because it’s cropped. I believe cropped everything is the easiest way to up your style game, don’t you? Having the sweatshirt at a shorter length gives off that effortless workout vibe. It’s never a bad thing to look like you just came from a workout or about to do one either.

I styled this outfit with my new lightweight chunky white sneakers to complete the look. Since comfort wear is the big trend right now, you might as well look cute while doing it. The sneakers are not only super comfortable to go for long walks in but white sneakers have been making a big splash in fashion for a while now. They’re the perfect shoe of choice to look on trend while staying comfy. Although this a very causal outfit, the gold accents take it from workout wear to quarantine chic. With just a few accessories, you can easily take this look from loungewear to supermarket ready (something I never thought I’d say).

I’ve never worn bra tops as an outer layer before but after staying home for 6 weeks, I’m officially a fan. I just snagged this cute lilac bra top pictured above on sale from Aritzia and I just want to wear it all day everyday. To tone down its original function as a workout piece, I styled it with a pair of my black Levi’s denim jeans and a chambray shirt. Together, it still has that sporty look but could still pass for a casual look around the house. Of course, you can’t forget the gold bold jewelry to add that style factor to any “workout outfit”. With bra tops, make sure you wear them with high-waisted pants or shorts to keep things classy and styling. By throwing on a cute cover overtop also makes this look more of a fashion statement than a workout ensemble.

I love putting together chic outfits with my workout wear; it’s fun finding ways to look comfy yet stylish at the same time especially while in quarantine. First things first, transforming your workout clothing into chic outerwear. We all need that confidence boost now more than ever. What better way than to channel some workout chic into your wardrobe so you can quarantine in style?

  2. Any suggestions for someone who is carrying a bit of extra weight around the tummy and hips? Love you!

    1. Yes of course. If you’re not into the idea of wearing tight clothing, may I’d suggest wearing a sweatsuit? They’re comfy to lounge in and look super stylish when worn outside as well 🙂
