Summer has officially hit Toronto, which means all my favourite summer style pieces will finally be coming out to play. There will definitely be many days where you’ll find me in short shorts and a tank but sometimes, all a girl wants is to dress up but still look super casual while doing it. Here are three super easy pieces that will give you endless styling options when wanting to look a bit chicer this summer.
1. Little Black Dress. One item every girl needs in their summer style closet or closet, period? A little black dress that can worn for multiple occasions. The easiest way to do that is to find one with a very simple cut that doubles as a basic summer style piece. The black mini dress I’m wearing above was a recent fab find from M Boutique that can be easily worn casually or dressed up. Here, I styled my little black dress with an oversized denim jacket and my white platform Keds for a cute summer date look. Who says skintight dresses can only be worn as a going-out look? I love styling my body-con dresses for casual outings as well and most times when paired with the right pieces, it can be worn as an everyday look while adding a touch of sex appeal.
2. Tie-Front Crop Top. Another summer style piece I’ve been loving this year is the tie-front crop top. Since you all probably know how much I love crop tops by now, this top pictured above is pretty much an elevated version of my beloved cropped look. Better yet, this one has major 70s vibes with the flared sleeves and retro print that it works as a cute look for a night out at a dive bar. The 70s has been a major trend this year so it’s only natural to rock some flared sleeves – amongst other things – while it lasts. Here, I styled this top with a pair of my ultra high-waisted leggings to balance out the super cropped length of the tie-front. It’s definitely a very flirty summer look that you could easily transform into a date-worthy look by pairing it with a high-waisted skirt instead. I opted for the leggings this time so it can still come off as a casual yet classy summer style but with an extra added edge to it. I definitely need more of these cute tie-front tops in my summer wardrobe!
3. Biker Shorts. Lastly, the summer style I probably love the most out of the three is the biker shorts and crop top combo. I was ambivalent to try out this look at first because I didn’t know if I could pull it off but now that I have, I absolutely love it! Pictured above, I styled my biker shorts with a checkered blazer that could easily pass as business casual chic. Blazers in general usually give off a very formal look but styled with the biker shorts, it’s an easy transformation into a casual outfit with an added edge to it. Finished off with the Keds, I feel like it’s the perfect outfit to either run errands or go on a coffee date in. There are so many different ways to style biker shorts – the blazer combo is definitely the most popular – but I’ve paired it with denim jackets, trench coats and oversized dress shirts, the possibilities are endless.
Summer just started so make sure to play around with your wardrobe as much as you can before the blazing heat takes over. Luckily, in Toronto though, the nights are still cool so you can get away with wearing layers in the summertime (:

Thanks girl! Biker shorts are definitely a major trend right now and has been for a while. They’re also super comfy, I just want to wear them with everything. You can probably already guess it’s my favourite out of the three; I love how it can make a blazer into a casual look!
I really like the outfit you put together in the first picture. The little black dress looks amazing. I will definitely keep that in mind when I choose my summer outfits. Thanks for the tips!
