The 6 Makeup Essentials I Never Leave Home Without

Beauty makeup products must havesIt’s safe to say – everyone has those makeup essentials they never leave home without. For me, I have six beauty products I always keep in my purse at all times. No matter how much I’d love to believe there’s makeup out there that can last up to 24 hours, all makeup needs a retouch after a certain time. During the day, our skin becomes oily overtime and melts off our perfectly applied liners and foundation. So what do I keep with me to make sure I look photo ready at all times? Read more to find out!

1. The first thing I do after applying my moisturizer each morning is to apply Bare Minerals BAREPRO Performance Wear Powder Foundation in Golden Nude 13 ($37) as my base. Some people find it strange but I like applying it right before my liquid foundation so my skin can have a natural matte finish to begin with. If I were to choose one beauty product to keep me with all times, this would be it. I like to use it throughout the night to take away shine and to even out my skin tone. I love how underneath the compact, it comes fully equipped with a sponge applicator. It comes in handy during the day when you are without your brushes for a quick touchup. It’s definitely a nice touch that it comes in a separate compartment from the foundation on top. The best part of this foundation? It’s super lightweight and compact so I can take it with me in small purses on a night out.

2. For those who know me, know I’m never with my signature cat eye. I do it EVERY single morning, no matter what. The only exception being when I went on my Caribbean cruise earlier this year and had my entire made-up face taken off by the ocean salt water. Other than that, you will most likely always see me with black lined lids done by my favourite: Stila Stay All Day Waterproof Liquid Eye Liner in Intense Black ($29). They recently came out with their Micro Tip version and I’ve been using it ever since. The microtip allows me to make lines with more precision so I can finish the cat eye to a perfect point. I take this with me wherever I go as I find my lids tend to produce a lot of oil throughout the day, which wears down the intensity of the black over time. However, this liquid liner never smudges and likes to stay put so the only thing I need to do is just reline my lids and I’m set.

3. I use liquid eyeliner for a sexy cat eye on the top and finish my bottom waterline with a pencil liner to make my eyes really pop. My favourite is Stila Smudge Kajal Eyeliner in Intense Black ($26). This would be the second beauty product that I must have with me at all times. I love lining my waterline as it completes the look for an everyday smokey eye but I also find that it comes off the fastest. I usually have to keep reapplying my pencil liner throughout the day and especially when I’m out at night. This liner does the trick in giving an intense look as the pigment comes out strong and more pronounced than other ones I’ve tried. I also like how it comes with a sharpener and a smudge stick on the other end. I don’t use the smudge end much but I like the added feature to fix with any over-applying, which can happen with the intensity of this liner.

4. I don’t know about you guys but I have really bad dark circles under my eyes so concealer is a MUST. I’ve tried a few different concealers but the one that works best for me is Cover Girl Smoothers Concealer Stick in Light Pale ($6). I use it every day after I apply my liquid foundation to get rid of my blemishes but mainly to hide how bad my dark circles are. It’s honestly been a lifesaver because, without it, I’d look dead tired – no joke. It hides my dark circles so well in one easy step. Unlike a lot of concealers out there where you have to use your fingers to dab it on – which can get pretty messy – Cover Girl’s concealer is in stick form which makes it hassle-free. I just do a few easy swipes under each eye and then blend it into my skin with my finger or a beauty blender. Throughout the day, it tends to stay on pretty well but just in case it comes off, I keep it with me when I know I’ll be going out after work. It keeps my blemishes hidden and my skin selfie-ready.

5. Of course, no makeup routine would be complete without filling in your brows. It’s – dare I say – the most important step (after your foundation, of course). I never really knew how to shape or fill in my brows until I discovered Benefit’s Goof Proof Brow Pencil in No. 5 ($32). Its wide base makes application so easy as it glides onto your brows effortlessly to create the perfect arch. The other end of the pencil comes with a brush, which helps to smooth out the colouring to create an evenness throughout your brows. I carry it with me at all times to do some touch-ups throughout the day if needed. I find that I sometimes end up touching my brows from time to time so it’s convenient to have the pencil in my purse to help fill in any gaps that may appear. Also, if I’m going out later in the night, I like to darken the appearance of my brows for a fuller look. You never know if your brows might need some TLC! Better to bring back-up with you just in case.

6. Last but not least, you know my purse will never be complete without at least one lipstick. I usually have at least five different shades with me but if I had to choose one as an everyday colour, I’d go with Bite Beauty’s Matte Crème Lip Crayon in Glacé ($28) for my most recent pick. I received the mini size of this skinny lipstick as my free birthday gift from Sephora earlier this year and absolutely fell in love with it! It’s been my go-to recently as a nice subtle punch of colour for a more subdued look. With my fair skin, I always have to have some colour on my lips to brighten up my complexion. The dusty mauve shade of this matte lipstick does just the trick. I absolutely love how slim this lipstick is that it almost feels like a pencil.  Combined with the creamy texture, it makes it super easy to apply. Not to mention, it smells super amazing and makes my lips feel super hydrated! If you’re looking for 100% natural ingredients, this lipstick is definitely the one for you. You know I’ll be keeping it in every one of my purses this fall.

  1. Haha, you definitely have that nice signature cat eye! So that’s your secret!! Would you have any suggestions/recommendations for people who have hooded lids like myself? What kind of make up choice would work best for eyes like mine?? You can never really see the eyeliner very well.

    1. Haha thank you! Can’t deny my love for the cat eye 😋 I actually have hooded lids too so lot of times you can’t see my eye makeup as well but I feel the cat eye works well to extend the shape of your eyes. Mascara will also definitely be your best friend by instantly giving your eyes a more dramatic look. You can also try lining your waterline if you like the smokey look! There’s so many ways to play around with your makeup! You just have to experiment 😊
