You know what I love about spring? The return of warm weather and sunny days. You know what I hate about spring? The fact that it can be gorgeous out one day and then temperatures plummet back down to freezing territory the next. That’s why having a light – but effortlessly chic – spring jacket is your best friend during these bipolar months. I recently snagged this black trench at Club Monaco and it’s the first time I’ve found a trench coat that actually flatters my petite frame. I love the gold metal detailing on this jacket with its exposed zipper. It’s a much edgier update to the usual double-breasted trenches that I’ve tried over the years.
For the majority of my life, I’ve always worn short jackets. It’s been tough finding jackets that end above the knee because standing at 5’4, anything longer will just make you appear even shorter. Luckily, I’ve been able to figure out a way to balance out the length of the jacket on a small frame – with my all-time favourite crop tops. I’m sure I’ve mentioned by now how much I love wearing crop tops with high waisted pants. Well, now that it’s warmer, I can wear them with essentially everything. This look is great for a crisp spring day – warm enough for crop tops and sandals but still cold enough to need a spring jacket to pull the look together. Don’t forget to throw on some killer shades to finish the look – they’re the best accessory for spring.
For this look, I threw on my Aritzia sweater jacket over an all-black ensemble. I loved this jacket for spring the moment I tried it on – it’s in a lovely heather grey that stands out well against the black. It shouldn’t come as a surprise that even for spring, I tend to gravitate towards the greys and blacks for my wardrobe colour scheme. To tie this look together, I also wore my signature cropped look with a pair of chic leggings. The main reason why crop tops work so well on a petite frame is that they accentuate the body, making you appear taller. Worn together with high-waisted pants, they create the illusion that you’re a few inches taller than you actually are. Of course, wearing a pair of booties don’t hurt either!
This is definitely a great weekend look or for going out. The days are slowly starting to get warmer but don’t be fooled by the daytime highs. From experience, I always find that I need a spring jacket that will keep me warm when the temperatures drop by evening time. Unlike most springs where I would usually rock my favourite leather jacket, I’ve been trying out longer jackets that can easily transform your outfit into a more stylish one. Both of these collarless jackets with an exposed zip definitely elevated my look, simply with the cut and fit. I know that whatever highs and lows I’ll be experiencing this spring, I’ll be looking cute while staying warm and cozy in these!
