Create Your Own Custom Edible Lipstick

I made a visit to Bite Beauty Lip Lab in Toronto this past week and it was definitely an unforgettable experience. One thing you should know about me is that I am absolutely obsessed with lipstick – I can never have enough. I’ve been wanting to come to this unique beauty store for a while now and so glad that I finally did. Right as I walked in, I feasted my eyes on the wide range of lip colours displayed on the wall in front of me. Bite Beauty has a wide selection of premade lipsticks for those who don’t want to go through the whole process of making their own. I, however, came in specifically to create my own custom lipstick so I was excited for the process to begin.

I was immediately greeted and quickly seated at the beauty bar where I would be able to make my own lipstick. The decor felt like a perfect mix of beauty store and science lab put together. I loved the modern interior with the vibrancy of the different colours lining the walls. I couldn’t help snapping what felt like hundreds of pictures by the end of it. Once I told the Lip Lab artist what I was looking for (everyday matte berry shade), he pulled out a bunch of pigments from the Lip Lab colour library for me to test out.

He started me off with an exfoliator and a moisturizer for my lips before we began applying colour to them. Once my lips were prepped and ready, we began trying the shades he mixed for me. I had initially said I was looking for a purple berry shade but as I kept trying more on, I found myself gravitating towards a red berry; I love wearing more subtle berry shades during the day and deeper fuschia ones when going out. It took a bit of trial and error but we finally found the colour best suited to what I was looking for and matching my skin tone (with some second opinions from the other staff).

After I had made a final decision on the exact pigment I wanted for my custom lipstick (second from the right), I was given a selection of nine scents to choose from. Some of the scents included lime, coconut, citrus mango, mint and vanilla to name a few. After testing them all out, I went with the cherry scent, which honestly smelled good enough to eat! Once I had my colour and scent chosen, I waited as my lipstick was made right before my eyes. (Check out my highlighted Insta stories to see to entire process)

The actual creation of the lipstick took approximately seven minutes as the shade was melted and then poured into the lipstick molding. After it had solidified, the lipstick was inserted into the signature Bite Beauty encasing. The entire experience was very exciting as I was able to witness firsthand how my very own custom edible lipstick was made. The whole process took around half an hour but it might be shorter or longer depending on how picky you are when it comes to finding the perfect shade.

In the end, I came out with a beautiful shade of vibrant berry in a creamy matte finish. The ingredients used in Bite Beauty are not only nourishing and moisturizing but also edible, making it delicious to use! It’s $55 for one custom lipstick and $80 for two (priced per person). If you want to go the whole nine yards, you could also pay $150 to get the Bespoke Lipstick Service, which includes two unique shades and a lip kit. This is designed to give you the exact shade you’re looking for by mixing unique pigments to create your very own original lipstick. As for me, I was happy getting the $55 custom lipstick service. I walked away with a perfect everyday bold lip colour and a very unique experience to rave about!
