It’s that time of the year again! Christmas might be over but New Years is right around the corner and I believe one of the best parts of the holiday season is all of the glitter, metallics and sparkle that come along with it. What better way to add a bit of sparkle to your wardrobe than with a holiday-inspired shellac manicure? I’ve been addicted to shellac ever since getting one for my best friend’s bachelorette (over a year ago) and I seriously don’t know how I ever lived without them! Compared to regular nail polish, they last for a good three to four weeks without ever chipping. You could keep it on for longer of course but your nails will eventually grow out until you need to go back to the salon, where they will easily remove it for you.
I haven’t been able to get a shellac manicure for a good three months now because my nails kept on chipping, so I was extremely happy when my nails finally became manicure-ready right before the holidays. Since I was feeling festive and wanted to do something different for the new year, I decided to go with a nice burgundy colour as my main with my ring finger as a glittery light pink colour. This is actually the first time I’ve tried a manicure using two colours and I really like it! I love doing burgundy all the time on my nails, so it was nice to switch it up a bit by choosing another colour that added a bit of fun while complementing the rich wine tone – perfect to ring in the new year with.
The salon I love going to is Glamour Secrets, which is conveniently right by my workplace. They do an amazing job and it’s the best one I’ve found in Toronto so far. It costs about $40 after tax and tip for a shellac manicure and although it might be a bit pricier than other nail salons, it’s definitely worth it. They make it super easy choosing a colour from the nail display tray, unlike other salons where you just have to sample from the bottle. And within half hour, you have beautiful polished nails that are instantly dry and ready to go after being put in the OPI nail dryer. I’m still surprised how fast they dry sometimes – another perk of doing shellac!
I was fully satisfied with my shellac manicure. This definitely got me in the mood to say goodbye to 2017 and hello to 2018! The colours are perfect for winter and added just a touch of sparkle to get you noticed for the holidays. These nails will definitely go with my New Years dress (stay tuned to see what I’ll be wearing) and go on to brighten up my January wardrobe. I would highly recommend getting a shellac manicure if you haven’t already. The best part of having my nails professionally done is not only do I get plenty of compliments from friends but from strangers as well!
