4 Ways to Style Swimwear as Outerwear

After many long years of wanting to start my own clothing line, I finally bit the bullet and did it. I launched my own swimwear collection at Avery last month and it’s been a wild ride. Having had this blog for almost four years now, I realized there was always something more I was meant to do and bringing my own designs to life was one of them.

Swimwear has always been very special to me because growing up very petite, I never had much confidence in the way I looked. I never owned or wore a bikini until I was 22 but when I finally did, I just remember how empowered I felt. So much that I had a whole collection of bikinis and now, I decided to create my own.

Avery is all about self-acceptance and embracing the body that we’re in. I designed it specifically so that smaller girls like myself can feel strong and beautiful in them. However, it’s not just swimwear. The pieces are made so that you can easily take your swimwear from the beach and incorporate it into your everyday style. Here are four ways to style swimwear as outerwear.

1. Bikini Top with High-Waisted Jeans and Sneakers.

I think we can all agree the easiest summer look is a pair of comfy mom jeans and sneakers. Styled with a one-shoulder bikini top, it adds a sporty and sexy switch-up to a classic look. The Aria top is one  of the most versatile pieces from my collection because not only can it double as a cute crop top, it’s also reversible!

The Aria top is reversible to be black or a feminine pastel pink on the other side. I styled this fit with the black side because it gives it that edgy street style look that I love to rock so much. Finished with my favourite pair of white sneakers, you can take this look shopping on the weekends to a socially distanced concert. The one shoulder design is perfect for a casual day to nighttime look.

2. Bikini Top with Oversized Button Down and Shorts.

Leather shorts is definitely the look of the summer and it just so happens to pair perfectly with a pretty bikini top that you can’t help but show off. Styled ever-so-casually with an oversized button down, a triangle bikini top can easily double as a cute bra top. Summer is all about showing a bit of skin so instead of a crop top, it’s time to up the ante and upgrade to a luxe bikini top.

The two-tonal Liv bikini was made to be super comfortable so you can wear it throughout your day and feel completely relaxed in it. Styled with a pair of strappy sandals, the look is feminine, edgy and very date-worthy. Because of its easy and feminine look, most people won’t even be able to tell you’re wearing a bikini top at all. It’s the perfect going out look that screams downtown Miami.

3. Bikini Top with Denim Jacket and Sneakers.

Sometimes you want to dress a bit casual and sometimes a bit sexy – even better when you can do both. Styled with a pair of leather shorts, this fun-loving bikini top with its leather straps is the perfect way to add a bit of fun to your summer wardrobe. To tone down the leather on leather look, finish the look with a pair of chunky sneakers and a denim jacket.

The Evvie top is made to be feminine and sexy by giving you just enough coverage in the front and bold leather straps in the back. Keeping with the trending look of leather this summer, a leather on leather look screams all things edgy while the sneakers make it completely casual. You’ll be ready to go patio hopping to a casual walk in the park without missing a beat.

4. Bikini Top with Slit Skirt and Oversized Shirt.

It wouldn’t be summer without a feminine beach look and the most feminine of them all is a slit skirt that you can style with any bikini top. With a long skirt, try styling it with a strapless bikini top instead. Worn alone, it may be a bit too much skin but with an oversized shirt on top, it adds just the perfect amount of beach style meets date night ready.

The bandeau-style Lola top was made to be all things dreamy and versatile with its wearable design. You can wear it underneath an oversized top or high-waisted bottoms for a feminine upgrade to your summer look. Because it doubles as a bandeau, you’ll want to wear it with all through summer as an easy style piece to any outfit.

There’s a reason why I love swimwear so much and that’s because it’s a direct extension of your personality. All swimwear have something in common – it’s made to be seen. With Avery, that’s no different and it serves as our main purpose. You can easily style our swimwear as outerwear by switching it up with a couple of your summer favourites.

When designing this first collection for Avery, I knew I wanted something feminine and edgy yet completely wearable that wasn’t just for the beach or the pool. The collection is all about embracing yourself after all so why not rock swimwear as outerwear? All the tops from Avery are made to be worn as outerwear just as much as swimwear – it’s all in the way you style them that takes it from beach to street ready.
