Fall is undoubtedly the best season for showing off your style. It’s when you get to rock all the cool jackets you have stocked up in your closet. I know I have an obsession with jackets in general but one fall staple every girl (and guy) needs is a worn-in leather jacket. The thing I love most about leather jackets is that they look so effortless but when you see someone wearing one, you can tell they got style. It can transform a simple outfit into an edgy one and also goes well with almost anything. I once wore a leather jacket with a bridesmaid dress and still made it work.
It’s definitely a versatile staple that can look good on all body types and anyone who has an edgy side to them. The best part is that there’s so many different ways to style a leather jacket that I’ve been having fun wearing them with all my fall fits. I’m all about leather fashion but a leather jacket especially is the one staple I could never live without. If you’re like me and can’t live without leather in their life, here are four ways to style a leather jacket for fall to up your cool girl factor.
All outfit details are linked at the end of this post!
1. With an animal-printed skirt.
This one is probably one of the easiest ways to upgrade a pretty summer look into an edgy fall fit. My leopard-printed skirt is one of my favourite summer pieces but this year was the first time – surprisingly – I actually wore it out for fall. I might’ve had a bit of wearer separation when the cooler weather rolled in that I figured why not keep wearing it. Leopard print is already a statement-making print that when paired with a leather jacket, it makes a bold fall look that is effortlessly chic. Don’t pack up those summer skirts just yet! Leopard skirts especially have become the perfect summer to fall transitional piece. Try it styled with a killer leather jacket and some sleek booties to look all ways feminine and edgy at the same time.
2. With a pair of biker shorts.
This one’s not an obvious choice because people don’t usually associate biker shorts as fall wear. This is why I’d only suggest wearing it on the warmer fall days when the weather permits – and why not show a bit of leg for as long as you can? I styled this outfit with my brown leather jacket (or shacket as it’s known to be called) and the colour contrast was a perfect match. The longer shacket styled with my shiny biker shorts gives it that all-leather look even though it isn’t. The shorts are made of a synthetic lycra material that gives the outfit a “wet look”. If styled with a longer leather jacket and combat boots, you could create a very cool girl chic look. The length of the jacket definitely balances out the summer look of the shorts so stay away from shorter length jackets for this one.
3. With a turtleneck and ripped jeans.
This one’s a no brainer and definitely my favourite way to style a leather jacket. I have an entire collection of turtlenecks so styling them with my favourite fall jacket has been the most natural thing I could do this time of the year. Not only do I feel like a million bucks with the simplest of pieces, it keeps me warm during these cool fall days. I also love a good pair of light-washed ripped jeans with a leather jacket the most because it brightens up your wardrobe instead of keeping to an all-black colour palette all the time. This is also a good way to show off your jacket as the basics really make it stand out. I received many compliments when I simply styled my leather jacket with a turtleneck and ripped jeans.
The turtleneck and jeans combo is such an easy everyday look that you can essentially style it with any jacket overtop. Try a style switch-up and wear it with a longer jacket – such as the shacket look I’ve grown to love so much. Pictured above at the Fall n’ Leaves pumpkin fest pop-up in downtown Toronto, I wore my turtleneck and mom jeans combo styled with my brown leather jacket. Although they’re the same pieces underneath as the previous picture, the jacket changes the entire look of the outfit. With this particular jacket, the colour gives off the perfect fall vibes to wear to all your autumn events. I felt very fall-appropriate wearing this outfit against the backdrop of the mini pumpkin patch.
4. With a slip dress and long boots.
I saved the coolest and possibly chicest one for last. I got this super sexy slip dress near the end of summer but no way I was going to let it sit in my closet for another year. Instead, I decided to transition it effortlessly from summer to fall – just as I did with the leopard-printed skirt – by wearing it with my leather jacket. Pictured above, I styled a cropped sweatshirt over the dress so now every time I wear it, people always think it’s a skirt instead. I also used the high slit up the side to my advantage by styling it with my new long fall boots. The length of the boot balances out how much leg would’ve been shown. Instead it’s now completely revamped into a sexy fall fit that I can to wear on my fun downtown outings.
I’ve always loved the way a leather jacket can elevate someone’s style into an edgier version of themselves. Whenever I see someone rocking a nice leather jacket, it just makes them look effortlessly cooler. If you follow any of these ways to style a leather jacket for fall, you can definitely covet the look as well. It’s a bold fashion statement that people usually don’t think much of but instantly gives them a bit of an edge. I’d suggest getting yourself a leather jacket for fall – if you don’t already have one – for an easy everyday style piece that always turns heads.

I have to say out of all of them, I love the look of the turtleneck styled with your leather jacket the most. It’s so simple yet sophisticated and reminds me of Jennifer Aniston’s outfit in Friends. Now I need to go cop that look 🙂 Thank you for these awesome tips!
Now that you mention it..yes I can see it! I loved Rachel Greene’s style so I’m glad it reminded you of it. I love causal looks the best and that one’s also my favourite of the four 🙂
I love how many ways you can wear leather. I have been wearing things that I feel are just classics and never go out of style because I love them. This was such a great post. I love your leather jacket 😊
