Here’s Why Everyone Needs to Own a Jade Roller

If you haven’t heard of a jade roller or own one by now, please do your skin a huge favour by investing in one. I’ve been using mine for half a year now and though I didn’t know much about it prior to trying it, I’m definitely a fan now. The jade roller has rejuvenating abilities as well as calming properties, which is the first thing that I noticed from the get go. It gave me an instant calming effect that wowed me like no other – I was instantly hooked. It’s such a simple last step in my skincare routine that anyone has at least 2 minutes at the end of their day to indulge in. Not convinced? Here are 5 reasons why you should get your own self-pampering tool!

1. It relaxes your facial muscles.

The gentle upwards motion of the jade roller can help your skin’s circulation, which ultimately relaxes your facial muscles. The most effective way to use your roller is in an upwards motion on your cheeks and forehead, finished with a downward motion on your chin. It helps to regulate blood flow throughout your face, ultimately giving you a super relaxed feeling. You can almost feel your facial muscles slowly relaxing one by one with just a few gentle swipes. I have poor circulation with some parts of my face being either too cool or I’ve noticed my cheeks flush easily so the roller is definitely helpful in evening that out. With better circulation throughout, it helps to ease the many muscles of the face. The jade roller is best used for cooling down your skin after a nice hot shower.

2. It detoxifies your skin naturally.

The great thing about a jade roller is that it encourages lymphatic drainage, which is basically how your skin gets rid of toxins – I love how I can do all that just by rolling my face every night. I recently got the Mount Lai spa set ($73.50) as gift for Christmas and really enjoy the Gua Sha tool that comes along with the roller. I had no idea how to use it at first, which is why I was so thankful for the informative instruction sheet packaged inside. The jade roller and Gua Sha tool both serve different purposes but ultimately, work together to rejuvenate your skin’s complexion by stimulating circulation from within. You can use the jade roller first to soothe the skin and then add a bit of facial oil to the Gua Sha tool while you do a scraping motion around the cheeks, forehead and chin area. This is a natural way to detoxify the skin, done in the most relaxing way.

3. It firms your skin by toning and lifting.

A much more affordable way to minimize the effects of aging is to invest in a jade roller! Of course it’s no miracle worker but the fact that such an easy tool can do all that makes me want to spend more time each night indulging in some rolling action. The upwards motion starting from the bottom of the cheeks to the forehead is a great way to tone and lift your skin. I use the wider side of the jade roller on the cheeks and forehead and the smaller end on my chin. I also roll upwards under my eyes using the smaller roller to help minimize the look of dark circles. The motion alone can help the skin keep its elasticity overtime, which is a win-win for me. We can invest in anti-aging creams all we want but I’d rather not spend an arm and a leg on creams that may or may not work. The jade roller on the other hand has been proven to be a handy tool in gently toning and lifting the skin overtime by getting rid of toxins in the skin naturally.

4. It depuffs and soothes inflamed skin.

I like to run my jade roller under cold water and pat it dry before using it each night for that ultra-relaxing sensation. You can also put it in the freezer if you want it to be super cold on your skin. The cool temperature of the roller naturally relaxes your skin and helps with puffiness. This is especially true in the morning when skin is naturally puffier after a night’s rest. Some ppl use it twice daily; I tend to use it mainly during the night when my face is hot from a steamy shower. I can almost feel the coolness of the roller depuff my skin upon contact while also soothing inflammation, which can happen when skin gets irritated. The calming sensation of the jade roller helps to pamper your skin like a mini spa treatment. I love how refreshed my skin looks after being naturally cooled down by the roller instead of looking all blotchy from the heat.

5. It’s a stress reliever and can help ease tension.

My favourite part of using a jade roller is how easily it releases built-up tension. Who needs to spend hundreds of dollars on facial massages when you can do it yourself in the comfort of your own home? The jade roller combined with the Gua Sha tool does just that by giving your face the perfect little treat at the end of the day. It’s now become my favourite nightly ritual where I’ll give myself a facial massage with the jade roller first and then use the Gua Sha tool along with some facial oil to finish off my skincare routine. I use the one infused with Rosehip Seed Oil from the Abnormal Beauty Company (pictured above) that is believed to reduce the signs of aging. I only have to use it once nightly and the Gua Sha tool makes it so easy to apply. After recently started to incorporate some facial oil into my beauty routine, I’ve loved how supple my skin looks and feels after.

Moisturizers and serums help replenish the skin’s moisture levels but facial oils are great for protecting the skin from harmful pollutants. I used to worry that facial oil might make my face too greasy but with the jade roller, it evenly distributes the product throughout my face and helps absorb faster into the skin. After 6 months with this thing, I can safely say a jade roller is what self-care dreams are made of.
