Hair is very important to me – as with most women out there. I’m very picky with what I choose to use on my colour-treated hair, as I’ve been highlighting it regularly for years. However, for the past year, I’ve let my roots grow out while experimenting with different colours. This led to me trying out a variety of colour-safe products that nourished my strands while protecting the colour. However, lately I’ve been battling another beast. My hair has been falling out at a faster speed and I needed to put an end to it – quick.
Enter Vegamour Haircare. This vegan haircare line boasts using all-natural and organic ingredients while strengthening the strands so it can look thicker and healthier. For all the ladies who love dyeing their hair as much as I do, you’ll know much of a life saver this is. Since bleaching my hair years ago, I’ve been on the constant lookout for products that hydrate my strands while promoting stronger hair growth. I ended up receiving a bunch of Vegamour haircare products to try – ranging from their signature GRO to HYDR-8 lines. I’ve used them for a month now and the verdict is in – is Vegamour worth the hype?
Vegamour Vegan Haircare
What makes Vegamour so revolutionary from all the other haircare products out there? The secret ingredient to all their products is a special protein developed specifically from Vegamour themselves – known as Karmatin. It’s the world’s first vegan keratin used in haircare and how lucky we are to be able to try it for ourselves? Keratin is a vital protein for our hair, nails and skin – found in many animals from reptiles to birds. However, on their quest to be completely vegan and cruelty-free, Vegamour haircare has successfully implemented Karmatin into their products.
What is Karmatin?
According to Vegamour’s website, Karmatin is described as a “microencapsulated vegan b-SILK protein which physically bonds to hair follicles”. Even after rinsing, the protein remains attached so it continues to nourish the strands long after washing. This was the first I’ve heard of it, but knowing that Vegamour has gone as far to develop their own chemical-free and animal-friendly alternative to keratin, I was all in to try their vegan haircare products for myself. Who else is ready to go all-vegan with me?
GRO Shampoo and Conditioner
Along with being known for their vegan hair products, Vegamour’s signature line is their GRO haircare. This line’s specifically made for women who struggle with thinning or damaged hair that falls out easily. Lately, that’s been me, so I was super excited to see if their GRO line would garner any results. All their products came beautifully packaged in bottles of varying shades of rose and pink. I appreciated how both the revitalizing shampoo and conditioner conveniently came in upside down squeeze bottles for easy usage.
I’ve been using both the shampoo and conditioner every 2-3 days for the past month. As per the directions, I leave the shampoo on for about a minute and follow with the conditioner afterwards for 2-4 minutes. The shampoo is a clear liquid that goes on smoothly and lathers well. Overall, it feels very clarifying, while the conditioner is cream-coloured and feels very nourishing and light. I haven’t noticed a huge difference in hair density since I began, but I have seen a significant difference in healthier-looking hair. My hair has never looked more shiny and recently, I’ve seen a decrease in the amount of strands falling out during each wash.
GRO and HYDR-8 Lines
Along with trying out the GRO line, I was super excited to try Vegamour’s HYDR-8 line. If there’s anything my coloured hair craves the most after years of bleaching, dyeing and highlighting sessions – that is deep hydration. With the GRO shampoo and conditioner, I’ve been able to maintain stronger and healthier hair first and foremost. Then to follow, their HYDR-8 products have given my hair the intensive moisture it wholly deserves. I was lucky enough to try out three of Vegamour’s HYDR-8 products. All of which gave me a different way to hydrate my brittle strands.

The Benefits of a Hair Mask
Each wash, I’ve been alternating between using the GRO conditioner and HYDR-8 Deep Moisture Hair Mask following their shampoo. With the mask, it has a soft milky texture that I have to carefully scoop into the palm of my hand. It isn’t a super heavy formula but rather quite light and goes on silky smooth, allowing me to drench my hair entirely in its creamy texture. I really loved how the mask felt on my hair. It’s definitely more hydrating than the conditioner and has been doing wonders in breathing life back into my damaged strands.
I usually leave the hair mask on for around 5 minutes (sometimes much longer) and voilà, my hair always comes out buttery soft with less noticeable breakage. One of the number one things people with bleached hair needs to invest in is a good hair mask. I went without one for the past year and I was getting so many split ends constantly. Since using Vegamour’s Deep Moisture Hair Mask though, I’ve been surprisingly seeing less. This means I’m not always picking at my ends like I usually do and my hair has been looking much healthier – but best of all, hydrated.

All-Natural Hydration
I tried out all three of Vegamour’s best HYDR-8 products. This included their Leave-In Conditioner as well as the Weightless Repair Oil. With my hair still wet, I would comb the leave-in conditioner through the strands of my hair. The product comes out as a spray – just a few sprays will do – and then I would dry my hair right after. I love this product in particular because it offers intense hydration along with heat protection. I can honestly feel the difference afterwards, with my usually dry locks looking and feeling like they got a burst of hydration.
Lastly, to end off my haircare routine, I use Vegamour’s Weightless Repair Oil. I was a little surprised by the how light this hair oil comes out. When they say weightless, they really mean it. It feels almost like water, with each pump quickly disintegrating as soon as it comes out. I was little on the fence about it, as it didn’t feel as hydrating as advertised. However, I’ve been using it for a little over a month now, and it’s thoroughly surprised me. The repair oil keeps my hair free of frizz and adds a beautiful shine to my ends. It’s actually much more powerful than it feels.
How do I feel about Vegamour haircare overall? After trying out the GRO and HYDR-8 hair lines from Vegamour, I can safely say I’m impressed by their vegan haircare products. Firstly, to have produced their own innovative animal-friendly ingredient, Karmatin that’s included in all their products is already amazing. On top of that, knowing that these products are not only good for your hair but actually work is the cherry on top.
I’ve never religiously tried out vegan haircare before Vegamour. I’ve always been on the hunt for the least harmful products for my colour-treated hair, but little to my knowledge, most are full of harmful chemicals themselves. With Vegamour, I’ve especially loved how their products are colour-safe, cruelty-free and all-natural. Since beginning this vegan haircare journey, my hair has been noticeably shinier and softer, giving life back to my dull locks. Consider myself fully vegan converted.
