Spring has finally sprung and what’s the hottest trend this year you ask? It’s none other than the beloved double denim look – also known as the Canadian tuxedo – coming back with a vengeance. I’ve always loved rocking denim jackets for the warmer weather but this year, in particular, light wash denim has been all the rage. From everything including jackets to jeans, slip dresses and tanks, the double denim wave has been making a real statement across storefronts that I couldn’t resist making my best effort to rep the Canadian tuxedo myself. It’s not only an easy look to pull off but you probably already have more denim in your closet than you know. Simply put it together and voila, you have a super cool outfit to wear to your next concert or for a night out to the movies. They say double the trouble, double the fun right?
The double denim trend is definitely giving me major Britney and Justin vibes circa 2001 and although that was eighteen years ago, the good thing about denim is that it never goes out of style. Of course, I wouldn’t suggest we go overboard with the denim like they had but there’s something about styling denim together that makes an outfit stand out from the crowd. Denim is undoubtedly the only thing that keeps reinventing itself throughout time and is forever evolving. Pictured above in my favourite oversized distressed denim jacket and distressed light wash jeans, I balanced out the look with a silky white blouse and matched my black combat boots to my belt. I would suggest pairing two similar but different washes together for a more dynamic look, instead of having it resemble more of a uniform with the same exact wash top and bottom. This gives it the look of versatility instead of double denim overkill.
Of course, you could also mix and match dark and light washes of denim together but I personally find the light-washed double denim look more of a standout. Light-washed denim gives off a very vintage look and is reminiscent of the 70s denim wave – which is what set off this trend in the first place. I finished off this look with my mini crossbody to match with my white-coloured blouse and within seconds, I have a super casual yet completely trendy look for spring. As well, I have a multitude of denim jackets and jeans that I cannot wait to mix and match all throughout the season! When the weather gets even warmer, why not trying styling a denim dress with a jean jacket and white platform sneakers? I’m getting super excited just thinking about the endless double denim possibilities.

Love it! I’ve been seeing so many people bring back double denim for spring. Though the weather isn’t super warm yet but as soon as it is, I’ll make my best attempt to pull off this style again. Thanks for the styling tips.
I’m glad you’re feeling this look as much I do! Double denim is gonna be the look of the season so start stocking up on those vintage finds! It has the retro vibes of the 70s mixed in with the minimalism of the 90s. Can’t help but love this trend!
