How Does a Lash Perm Compare to Lash Extensions? Let’s Find Out

Lash perm beauty Toronto fashionWell, I finally did it – I got a lash perm. Pictured above is a selfie I’d taken a few weeks before the procedure. As you can see, I barely look like I have any lashes in this photo. I’ve been struggling for the past year to get my lashes to stay curled throughout the entire day. No matter how much mascara I put on, it was pointless as my lashes insisted on staying straight – even after being curled multiple times. I was getting so frustrated that I was debating between investing in a more expensive eyelash curler or getting a lash perm. I didn’t want to do extensions as I’ve heard they only last around three weeks and can be quite pricey. As a cheaper alternative, I decided to try out the lash perm that I recently just heard about.

I’ve never been too keen on getting lash extensions because I’ve always hated the idea of having someone in direct contact with my eyes. However, when my hair colourist Joanna Phuong (who also does lashes) suggested I get a lash perm instead, I was instantly intrigued. It’s a quicker process with lashes lasting twice as long. The entire procedure took around forty-five minutes with my eyes closed the entire time as she worked her magic. There was a slight discomforting feeling on my eyelids at first but bearable for the most part. By the end of it, I realized I’d actually fallen asleep as my lashes were being worked on. The result? Lashes that had been fully lifted and hundred percent my own with no harsh chemicals used.

Everything used on my lashes was sugar-based. It definitely allowed me to feel comfortable enough to take the plunge and try out the lash perm in the first place. It cost $70 to get the perm done with the tint included – $60 without. The perm lasts for up to eight weeks, which was the main reason I wanted to do the procedure. I wanted something long-lasting that were also my own lashes. I love the look of extensions but hate the idea of them falling out after only a few weeks. I figured why not pay less for something that lasts longer? I’ve had the lash perm for seven weeks now and although they are not as full as before, they are still surprisingly lifted.

Even though the lash perm is definitely not as extravagant as lash extensions, I would say I like how natural it looks in comparison. If you want something more glam, I’d advise getting extensions. However, if you’re looking for something a bit lower maintenance like myself, I’d opt for the perm instead. Pictured above is a selfie I took seven weeks after the procedure and although subtle, you can actually see my lashes now. I’d try the lash perm again but I’d probably skip the tint next time as I didn’t feel it made much of a difference. Now, I can put my makeup on without worrying about how lifted my lashes are. The best part? I haven’t used an eyelash curler in almost two months!

  1. OMG You look so good!!! I love the last perm on you. Does it irritate your eyes or cause any itchiness the day after? How is it in terms of maintenance (eg: things like no splashing water on face?)

    1. Thanks so much!! It doesn’t irritate my eyes at all. I only felt a slight irritation during the procedure but nothing major. And there really is no maintenance honestly. Aside from not being able to wet my lashes for the first 24 hours after getting them done, it’s been pretty easy to maintain so far 🙂
