Last summer, my boyfriend sent me a list of the top twelve cutest restaurants in Toronto for a brunch or dinner date. I was instantly intrigued and wanted to go to all of them by summer’s end. Sadly, we didn’t manage to go to any of them – until now (finally!). The one that had been at the top of my list was Wish – even the name made me swoon – with its dreamlike interior and romantic ambiance. It definitely met my expectations as I was in love at first sight with its South-beach inspired decor.
The most adorable part of the entire restaurant was probably the ceramic water pitchers with a “wish granted” sign along with them. Needless to say, I was constantly snapping shots from every angle of the restaurant like a bright-eyed tourist. Wish is very popular for their brunch options but we opted to make it a dinner date instead. This was fine by me as the candlelight definitely set the mood for a romantic night out with my beau. If you are coming for brunch though, I hear they have an amazing grilled Nutella sandwich with raspberry compote that is to die for.
After weighing out our options, we decided on a light dinner and shared the charcuterie board on the menu, which was perfect as we ended up devouring everything. There’s something about the combined yumminess of assorted cured meats, cheeses, crostini, walnuts paired with a wine that makes this the perfect date night meal. I would suggest the sauvignon blanc for this one, which balanced out the flavours quite nicely. My favourite part was definitely the apple chutney (so delicious!) that added just the right amount of sweetness to our palate.
As a rule of thumb, it’s not a date without dessert. Wish is always changing their daily selection of desserts and on this particular night, our best option was the vanilla and caramel parfait topped with chocolate and banana. Our server warned us beforehand that it would be very sweet but known for having a sweet tooth, I went for it. I enjoyed it for the first few spoonfuls but the sugar became too much for me and my boyfriend ended up eating the rest happily (as always). I would definitely suggest sharing this one with another fellow dessert lover.
We left with our stomachs full and happy to have finally knocked one of the twelve cute date spots off our list. I would highly recommend this spot if you’re looking for a peaceful night out with your beau or girlfriend in a cozy and intimate environment. Now, I just need to come back for the Nutella sandwich.
